Many traditional 401k plans favor rank and file employees by allowing them to contribute a higher percentage of their income to the plan, while severely limiting owner contributions. We can help design plans using tools like new comparability 401ks and defined benefit plans. For example, in 2017 a defined contribution plan, such as a 401k, limits employee and employer total contributions to $54,000 plus $6000 for over age 50 catch ups, whereas a defined benefit plan may allow or require owners to contribute significantly more to fund future benefits of up to $215,000 of a future income benefit. * (Bloomberg BNA Quick Tax Reference)
