Scot Millen co-founded Brightworks because he believes that the best results come from a partnership of the right experts supported by leading financial tools and an open-architecture investment platform.

Millen manages the firm’s investment process that is fundamental to the BrightPath Integrated Wealth Management process.  Investment management is a part of his DNA; he got an early start at age 12 buying 5 shares of Apple Computer in 1981.

Millen has over a decade of experience in financial services, investments, and banking. Following graduate school, he was recruited into M&T Bank’s Executive Associate program and was soon promoted to Vice President in the bank’s Investment Group. There he had leadership roles in developing new mutual funds, merging and acquiring over $10 billion of funds, and advising the Board of Directors of MTB Funds in the hiring of institutional asset managers. Seeking new opportunities in wealth management, he joined Baltimore-Washington Financial Advisors and helped clients navigate through the toughest markets in recent history.

Prior to graduate school, Millen gained first-hand expertise in international business by managing an overseas office for Cooperative Business International (CBI)  in Prague, Czech Republic.  There he led CBI in developing joint ventures and conducting international trade.  His next venture abroad was a co-director at CMC Graduate School of Business in Čelákovice, Czech Republic.  There he taught Czech executives business English and particularly enjoyed teaching “The Language of International Finance.”  He returned to the US in 1998.

Millen graduated with honors from Ohio University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in Russian.  In 2001, he earned an MBA in Finance from State University of New York at Buffalo.  You will find him quoted in The New York Times,, Washington Post, Washington Examiner, and Investment News.

Active in the community, Millen is a church youth group leader, community board member, and Leadership Howard County Premier 2011 graduate.  Residents of Ellicott City, Maryland he and his wife, Cindy, are the proud parents of daughters Ruby and Lexa.
