Scot Millen co-founded Brightworks more than ten years ago with the belief that the best investment results come from a combination of the right professionals and financial tools, all supported by an open-architecture platform. He manages the investment process at the firm, which is integral to the BrightPath Integrated Wealth Management approach and has over two decades of experience in financial services, investments, and banking. Millen holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary, AIF® designation, which is awarded to individuals who have met strict educational, competence, conduct, and ethical standards to uphold a fiduciary standard of care and act in the best interests of their clients.

 

Prior to starting Brightworks, Millen served as Vice President in M&T Bank's Investment Group, where he played a leadership role in developing mutual funds, overseeing the merger and acquisition of over $10 billion of funds, and advising the Board of Directors of MTB Funds (now Wilmington) on the hiring of institutional asset managers. Millen previously held a director-level position at a regional independent wealth manager where he took the lead in growing the firm and developing new clients. He also gained international business experience by managing an overseas office for Cooperative Business International in Prague, Czech Republic, where he led the Central Europe office in developing joint ventures and conducting international trade.

Millen graduated with honors from Ohio University with a degree in economics and a minor in Russian. He earned an MBA in finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo and has been quoted in several publications, including The New York Times, Newsweek.com, The Washington Post, The Washington Examiner, and Investment News.

 

In addition to his professional pursuits, Millen has taught courses and seminars at Howard Community College and CMC Graduate School of Business. He is also actively engaged in his community, serving as a youth group leader and holding positions on various boards, including past chair of the Community Foundation of Howard County. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Warden at the largest Episcopal Church in Maryland.  He has completed the Premier program at Leadership Howard County. Millen and his family reside in Ellicott City, Maryland.
